Casa Minguillo
History of the name...
On your way to Pangasinan's Hundred Islands along Romulo Highway (N55), Casa Minguillo sits on the original home site of Ex-Mayor Domingo and Consuelo Madrid and was built by their eldest daughter Becky Madrid and her younger brother Engr. Peter Madrid. Amid this magical Japanese-inspired setting in this small town of Aguilar, Domingo and Consuelo erected a 2-storey stone house (bahay na bato) more than 75 years ago. Laki Minguillo, his nickname, was a very down-to-earth grandfather, politician, forest ranger, a baker of kakanins and a farmer & grower who put extra care and attention to surround his home with different garden flowers, plants and fruit trees. Today those trees continue to nourish his children and grandchildren which inspired the name ‘Casa Minguillo’. Because of his sincerity, commitment and love for his townspeople, he was able to win the love of Aguilar's dearest citizens. He became mayor of this small town for three terms and served his constituents until his dying breath. Even though his old home is leaking of rainwater during the rainy season, he continued to entertain guests and townspeople from the municipio. This did not go unnoticed by the media and reporters who later wrote articles about him as “The poorest mayor who ever served in the Philippines”. Despite of it all, he was able to serve the public and at the same time educate all of his 10 children with Conching. The grandchildren were further inspired to romantically link the names Minguillo with the word 'MINGLE' and Consuelo with the word 'CONSOLE'. Perhaps these two were meant and destined for each other since the 'CM' did turn out to be Consuelo Minguillo as later on put together by their younger son Peter Madrid.
Today, while the old stone house did not totally disappear and sections of it lay in ruins behind the Japanese house, the charm, romance and hospitality of earlier days, combined with the little luxuries of more modern times, this piece of historical land is drawing travelers from around the world to experience the warm hospitality of our Vacation Villa & Events Center in the heart of Pangasinan.
